Opening a blog is way easier then opening a deli! "Fish for a man, you feed him for a meal, teach him how to fish and you feed him for life". So, I plan to give you the culinary skills I am blessed to have and you will have to cook for yourself! Many recipes are made up over the years, I also have recipes that friends have passed on and will share them with you because I have tried them and they work!
If you have a recipe that you have tried and tested and works well, please be considerate and share it with the rest of us!
If u have any comments, suggestions, complaints or any feed back (positive and negative) please email me fifthpost@gmail.com

Burgers
Homemade burgers are really easy and simple to make. Personally we like them better than take out ones!
Put a packet of mince meat in a bowl. Add one raw egg. (If you are doing multiple packets of meat, its one egg per packet)
Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder and 3 tablespoons flour. (Again if you are doing multiple packs, its 3 tablespoons per packet)
Mix meat well making sure all ingredients are well blended. (The easiest way to do this is wearing disposable gloves). The meat should look like this:
Next, shape your meat. You can do smaller burgers or larger burgers - whatever you fancy. If you are having burgers in buns, one packet of meat splits nicely into four (for 2 people, this will give 2 burgers each)
You can prepare burgers in advance. If so, make sure you cover them well (best with cling film) and refrigerate until you are ready to fry them.
To fry burgers, I find they do best in a griddle pan and they taste delish too! You can also do them in a regular frying pan if you do not have a griddle pan. Griddle pans are not expensive and definitely worth the investment.
Heat up pan. Do not add oil - the meat creates its own fat. Once pan is hot lower flame to medium and add burgers.
When burgers start to go brown at the edges, turn them over:
Cook for at least 10 minutes on a low to medium flame. To check if they are ready, cut one open slightly. If it is still very red inside, return to pan. If you want to speed up the cooking process, you can cover the pan with a piece of tinfoil.
Cooked burgers should look like this:
Whilst the meat is cooking, prepare a vegetable platter of whatever veg you like in your burger. (You can prepare veg in advance, but make sure to cover well with cling film so they don't dry out).
When burgers are ready, cut buns in half and spread each side with the following: Mayonnaise, ketchup or mustard (or anything else you fancy). Pile veg and burger on bottom half of the bun. (Makes no difference which one first)
Top with any sauce you like - BBQ sauce, Chilli sauce etc.
Close bun Et Voila!
Bon Appetit!
